Who we are and have been...
The EGPA group and prospectors are the proud remnants of the original prospectors in the Eastern Goldfields of Western Australia ,
In mid 1990 due to dwindling numbers the Coolgardie group shut down and with the Kalgoorlie/Boulder prospector groups these regional prospectors merged to form the EGPA.
Focusing on the antecedents of the EGPA alone we trace its origins to the first prospectors in Eastern Goldfields District , Coolgardie discovered in 1892 and Hannan's discoveries in Kalgoorlie / Boulder 1893. Since then we have a long, proud and colourful history, fighting for prospectors rights, far too much to mentioned in detail here.
In more recent times members of the EGPA have been instrumental in helping defeat major changes to the Mining Act, Mining Regulations, influencing WA government policies, the running of the Mines Department and Wardens Court. The EGPA cosponsored a major political forum prior in Kalgoorlie prior to the 2017 state election where some 8 candidates confronted some 300 small prospectors, miners, leaseholders and general community leaders an a range of concerning issues.
We continue to monitor and address emerging issues likely to adversely effect small miners, prospectors and leaseholders. We also advocate on behalf of regional Australia, to prevent the erosion of facilities and resources and state and federal government neglect.
On a lighter note the EGPA contributes to technical field events, seminars, community activities and parades (St Barbara's Day Parade since it inception), and runs a number of social and educational events for its member throughout the year.
